Starting Molds

what do I know about molds?  Not enough.  This is some of what I have learnt.  Each mold is different.  Each one has its own special needs.  In the main. I make my own slip. It is 75% cheaper than the premixed.

I pour it in the mold.  It needs topping up.  If it is a solid pour, like a tile you don't need to drain.

How do you know when the mold is ready to open?  The answer is always the same, when the mold opens easily.

This could be in one hour or one day. The slip inside the mold, for me, takes about 20min to make a reasonable object. You can see the tile has a waste at the top.  I cut this off with a fettling knife and trim any excess clay.
